Orthodontic treatment is a big commitment and it's completely normal to have a lot of questions, particularly when it comes to the length of time treatment will last. For many patients, particularly adults, we're often asked "how long does Invisalign take?" Of course, treatment times vary depending on your case complexities and your treatment goals.

Let's Start With the Invisalign Basics

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that uses clear, smooth plastic aligners to move your teeth into their ideal positions. One major advantage of Invisalign is that these aligners are nearly invisible, making them a fantastic option for people who don’t necessarily want everyone to know that they are undergoing treatment.

Another benefit for those who choose Invisalign treatment is that your aligners can be removed. While you must wear your aligners a minimum of 22 hours a day, you are able to remove them while you’re eating or drinking, swap them for a mouthguard when performing a physical activity, or even briefly for special occasions.

When Will my Treatment by Complete?

As your teeth gradually move into place, you will need new aligners. In fact, approximately every two weeks you’ll have new aligners to wear. The length of the entire process is comparable to traditional braces. The most important thing to remember is that the length of time you will have to undergo treatment depends largely on the complexity of your case. On average, you can expect your treatment to last anywhere between 12 to 24 months.
