As you begin evaluating alternatives to braces, you'll likely have a number of questions and concerns. In this post, we're going to provide answers to a few of the most common things we're asked, and share our best tips about how to get the right treatment for your unique case and goals, like what to ask during your consultation.

What are Some Alternatives to Braces?

If you are considering orthodontic treatment but would prefer to avoid the look and feel of traditional braces, you have a few options like Invisalign. This amazing option is completely unlike braces. Instead of brackets bonded to your teeth and wires that gradually rotate and reposition your teeth, Invisalign uses a series of clear aligner trays to achieve the same results.

When the time comes to evaluate the pros and cons of the alternatives to braces, here are a few important questions to discuss with your orthodontist:

Will My Results Differ Between Invisalign and Braces?

Invisalign and braces provide very similar outcomes. Both work to straighten your teeth by addressing any bite or alignment issues. The difference is that with Invisalign, you will wear custom-fit trays instead of traditional brackets and wires. The trays are clear and resistant to staining, and are very smooth, making them comfortable and easy to get used to.

Every few weeks, depending on the individual treatment plan, the patient swaps out one tray for a new one. Each successive tray helps rotate and realign your teeth.

What Does Each Option Cost, and is There a Difference Between Them?

On average, treatment with braces and alternatives to braces is similar. You can see average costs and calculate what you could expect for payments in our Online Payment Calculator!

Can I Achieve my Smile Goals Easier or Faster with One Option Instead of the Other?

Invisalign provides great results for problems like overbites, cross bites, and other similar issues in roughly the same time as braces. Most treatment is completed in 12-24 months.

How will My Life Change?

With Invisalign, not very much—until your treatment is complete and you have a beautiful new smile! You can remove them to eat, drink, wear a mouthguard or have family photos taken, plus you won't have to introduce dietary changes.

And, because Invisalign is easy to get used to, few people will even notice you are undergoing treatment.

How many Times will I Have to Visit the Orthodontist?

Typically, Invisalign requires a similar number of appointments compared to braces. You'll have to visit us at Molen Orthodontics on average every 10 weeks to check your progress and provide you with your new aligner trays.
